Had it not been for the trade with Portland that sent defender Kosuke Kimura and a draft pick to the Red Bulls, the club would have been mere spectators in the draft, not that there’s anything wrong with that considering that most of the players are household names only in their own households. The Red Bulls last year traded their first-round pick to the Timbers in the deal that brought Kenny Cooper to New Jersey. (Word is now that the Red Bulls are peddling Cooper, who led the team in goals last year.)

Christianson, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is 5-foot-11 and started all 26 games last season as he helped the Hoyas reach the College Cup final four for the first time in school history.
