National Premier Soccer League
The New Orleans Jesters moved to the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) after competing in the USL’s Premier Development League since 2003. The NPSL was formed in 2005 as the nation-wide successor league to the Men’s Premier Soccer League.
The Jesters have also undergone a new ownership structure and a new youth development program.
The Jesters will play in the Southeast Division, one of four divisions in the NPSL South Region, along with Chattanooga FC and the Knoxville Force from Tennessee, Florida’s Gulfcoast Texans, the Mississippi Storm and Rocky City United, which is based in Huntsville, Ala.
The Mid-Atlantic Division of the South Region includes N.C.’s CASL Elite, Virginia’s RVA Football Club and Chesterfield United FC, South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach FC and D.C. United U23s. The five-team Sunshine Division is Florida’s Cape Coral Hurricanes, Jacksonville United FC, Miami United and Tampa Marauders FC, along with the Georgia Revolution.
The South Region also includes the four team South Central Division made up of three Texas teams the Houston Hurricanes, Houston Regals SCA and Liverpool Warriors, and the Tulsa Athletics from Oklahoma.
Christine Sinclair and Alex Morgan each scored goals as the Portland Thorns FC shutout the Washington Spirit 2-0 before a home crowd of 12,474. It was Morgan’s fourth goal of the season, tying her for the league lead with Boston’s Sydney Leroux and FC Kansas City’s Renae Cueller….The Boston Breakers (2-1-2) were the last unbeaten team in the league before losing 2-0 to FC Kansas City before a crowd of 4,362 in Shawnee Mission, Kan. Cueller, a Mexican international, scored her fourth goal in five league games…..Seattle Reign FC’s Hope Solo, still out of action and recovering from wrist surgery, will be included in training camp with the U.S. WNT as they prepare for the upcoming international friendly. She will be restricted to light training…..Portland’s Sinclair’s two goals and an assist earned the Canadian international Player of the Month for the NWSL for the month of April.
