Julian Green, The Newest American Forward

Bayern Munich forward Julian Green’s application to FIFA for a one-time change of association was approved today, and he is now eligible to play for the U.S. Men’s National Team.

The 18-year-old Green, a dual citizen of the United States and Germany, has been invited in preparation for the USA’s next game against Mexico on Wednesday, April 2.

We are obviously thrilled,” said U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. “We appreciate FIFA’s effort in getting his paperwork approved, and are excited to have him on board for the game against Mexico on April 2.”

Green was born in Tampa, Fla., and he has previously been a part of a U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team camp. Most recently, Green spent two days with the U.S. MNT earlier this month in Frankfurt, Germany, prior to the team’s March 5 international friendly against Ukraine. Because Green played for Germany in an official competition – a qualifier for the U-19 European Championship – the one-time change application was required.

Green signed with Bayern Munich in November of 2013 after playing for the German club’s U-23 squad.

The USA next faces Mexico at 8 p.m. local (11 p.m. ET) on April 2 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. USA-Mexico, presented by AT&T, will be broadcast live on ESPN2, WatchESPN, UniMas and ESPN Deportes Radio.
